Stem Cell Therapy for Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia (FM) is the second most prevalent musculoskeletal disorder, causing widespread pain sensitivity, fatigue, and generalized muscle pain throughout the body.
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a syndrome classified under musculoskeletal disorders, characterized by a range of symptoms affecting the body. It is the second most prevalent disorder impacting the muscles and bones, often leading to heightened pain sensitivity in patients.
Characteristic Features:
Fatigue
Joint pain
Generalized muscle pain throughout the body
What causes Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is an idiopathic disease, meaning its exact causes are unknown. However, one widely recognized factor is abnormal brain stimulation related to pain processing. The brain and spinal cord can amplify nerve signals, leading to widespread pain and fatigue in the bones, joints, and muscles. This abnormal signaling is often linked to the irregular release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, which are responsible for the firing and relaxation of neuronal signals.
Other Contributing Factors of Fibromyalgia:
Infectious Disorders:
Infections and inflammatory illnesses may trigger the onset of fibromyalgia by initiating abnormal immune and nervous system responses in the body.
Genetic Predisposition:
Fibromyalgia may have a genetic component, with certain genetic mutations and modifications increasing susceptibility. This disorder can run through multiple generations.
Emotional or Physical Triggers:
Emotional or physical trauma can sometimes precipitate fibromyalgia. Prolonged depression, stress, and other psychological factors are also significant contributors to the incidence and prevalence of fibromyalgia.
What are the Risk Factors of Fibromyalgia?
Several risk factors are associated with the development of fibromyalgia, including:
Family History/Genetic Predisposition:
Genetics play a significant role in the prevalence of fibromyalgia. Individuals with a family history of the condition are at a higher risk of developing it, as there is a strong and direct link between genetics and fibromyalgia in subsequent generations.
Age and Gender: Women, particularly in their earlier years of life, are more susceptible to developing fibromyalgia compared to men.
Other disorders: Autoimmune disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), lupus erythematosus, and osteoarthritis can compromise the body's natural immune system, making it more prone to inflammation. These pro-inflammatory conditions can trigger the onset of fibromyalgia, leading to its characteristic symptoms and features.
What are the Symptoms of Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia presents with several primary symptoms, the most common of which include:
Fatigue: Individuals with fibromyalgia often experience persistent fatigue and a disrupted sleep routine. Patients frequently report a dull ache or constant pain throughout their bodies. Sleep quality is often compromised due to pain, sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome.
Cognitive Difficulties:
Altered perception or cognitive difficulties, commonly referred to as "fibro fog," are a significant effect of fibromyalgia. Patients with fibro fog often struggle with attention, focus, and memory.
Co-morbidities Associated with Fibromyalgia:
Headaches (including migraines)
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Painful bladder syndrome or interstitial cystitis
Depression and anxiety
Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS)
Insomnia and sleep disturbances
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
Fibromyalgia can significantly interfere with daily life, affecting one's ability to function at home, in the workplace, and within social groups. The severity of symptoms can lead to frustration, depression, and in extreme cases, negative or suicidal thoughts.
How is Fibromyalgia treated?
Treatment for fibromyalgia often involves the use of specific medications, including:
Anti-seizure Drugs:
Medications typically used to treat epilepsy, such as Gabapentin and Pregabalin, are effective in reducing the onset of epilepsy-like symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.
Antidepressant Drugs:
Medications like Duloxetine and Milnacipran are often prescribed to help alleviate pain symptoms, which are strongly linked to fibromyalgia.
Opioid Drugs:
Over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and naproxen sodium can provide temporary relief from pain symptoms. However, these drugs are not a definitive treatment or cure for fibromyalgia and may lead to increased dependency, potentially worsening the condition over time.
How Can Stem Cell Therapy Treat Fibromyalgia?
Stem Cells are the building blocks of the human body, possessing a natural ability to regenerate cells and tissues. Advances in medicine now enable the regeneration of cells through effective treatment protocols for conditions such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) for fibromyalgia is particularly innovative, as it involves a series of carefully designed steps to address the underlying issues.
In the treatment of fibromyalgia, Stem Cell Therapy involves the injection of CD34+ enriched Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) into the patient's body, targeting regeneration and repair. This therapy regimen is similarly applied to other conditions, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, type-2 diabetes, and cerebral palsy.
During periods of stress, the body releases a specific protein known as SDF-1, which guides the movement of cells toward the areas in need of healing. This process, known as the homing function, directs newly introduced stem cells to their target sites for regeneration and repair. Allogenic or autologous stem cells used in this therapy are typically derived from sources such as the placenta, cord blood, bone marrow, peripheral blood, and circulatory blood.

How does Exosomes and Stem Cell Therapy treat Fibromyalgia?
Clinical literature indicates that Exosomes, when combined with Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs), play a crucial role in managing autoimmune diseases by regulating inflammatory cytokines, the microenvironment, and immune cells. These processes are closely related to both adaptive and innate immune cells, with key players including macrophages, Treg cells, Th17 cells, immunoregulatory miRNAs, and CD4+ Th1 cells.
In cases of autoimmune diseases, MSCs combined with Exosomes help regulate T-cell subsets. Specifically, this therapy reduces the levels of pro-inflammatory Th17 and Th1 cytokines, such as IL-17AF, IL-12p70, and IL-6, while simultaneously increasing the concentration of anti-inflammatory Treg cells. This balance is achieved without altering the overall lymphocyte concentration, thereby maintaining immunoregulation within the body. Similar effects have been observed in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), where MSCs-Exosomes suppress the differentiation of naïve T-cells, thereby improving these conditions.
Macrophages, a critical component of the innate immune system, can also be modulated through MSCs-Exosomes. Depending on the microenvironment, naïve macrophages (Mo) can be polarized into either anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages or pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages, allowing them to perform different roles in various conditions. This combination therapy not only benefits autoimmune conditions but also facilitates metabolic homeostasis, potentially reducing obesity and adipose inflammation. Additionally, MSCs-Exosomes promote the conversion of M1 to M2 macrophages, thereby decreasing the pro-inflammatory effects associated with M1 macrophages.
How is the treatment at The Renue Medical Centre different?
The Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) at The Renue Centre is a holistic approach to treating Fibromyalgia.
Your Renue Journey does not end after your last day of SCT. We follow up with you to assert your progress, following four phases:
Pre-treatment: this phase consists of clinical evaluation, lab test results, and other diagnostic procedures.
You will take our Renue Epigenetic Test powered by TruDiagnostics that will assert your biological age and other important health markers. Your TruDiagnostics test is part of The Renue Difference. It provides your doctor with critical information about your health and your true age (biological vs. chronological).
After the epigenetic test and we have received all your medical records, your Patient Advisor will assist you in planning your travel to Puerto Vallarta.
Treatment day: formulation of the donor sample consists of taking blood from the donor at the start. After taking blood, stem cells are processed and extracted through multiple steps and injected inside the patient. The quantity and number of IV sessions also depend upon the severity and the type of disease. Some diseases require more concentration of Stem Cells than others.
30, 60 & 90 days after the treatment: to check for flare-up frequency, improvements, and other symptoms.
Six months after treatment: lab tests, flare-up frequency, clinical evaluation, and disease prognosis.
Expected results: benefits and outcomes
SCT to live a better life: Benefits and outcomes
